In response to the number of Indiana residents increasingly burdened by out-of-pocket medical expenses, a board-certified Indiana radiologist is now offering high-quality magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) services at a reasonable cost. MRI Solutions, an accredited medical imaging facility, offers affordable, flat-fee MRI scans for individuals who are uninsured or underinsured or have High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP) or Health Savings Accounts (HSA).
More than half a million Indiana residents currently live without any health insurance — and this number continues to climb at a rate faster than that of the national average. Both underinsured and uninsured adults are significantly more likely to go without needed health care and to struggle with medical bills than people with adequate health insurance, according to a new study released by The Commonwealth Fund.
The number of Americans paying out of pocket for medical expenses is growing as insurance premiums increase, employers drop medical coverage benefits and the cost of health care gets shifted to the patient. The Commonwealth report states that the number of underinsured American adults rose 60 percent between 2003 and 2007. Families who have health insurance, but also have high medical deductibles and expenses relative to their income, have been hit hardest by the increase.
“We recognize that the increasing cost of health care has made it difficult for some Indiana residents to obtain the necessary tests for the diagnosis of certain medical conditions,” said Dr. Joseph George, partner of MRI Solutions and a board-certified radiologist. “MRI Solutions provides a low-cost, viable option for patients with high-deductible health plans or health savings accounts, or those who otherwise don’t have access to quality and affordable MRI scans.”
An MRI scan may be necessary for a physician to make a proper diagnosis if an individual is experiencing back, neck, joint or muscle pain. This may include chronic medical conditions such as arthritis, recurring joint pain while exercising, or pain brought on by a recent accident or injury.
One scan of one body area is available for a flat fee of $450. Additional scans and MRIs with contrast are available for an additional fee. All scans are interpreted by Dr. George and then sent to the patient’s physician. Patients without a referring or primary care physician may make an appointment with an affiliated board-certified pain management physician, who will provide a diagnosis and treatment plan. This consultation is an additional fee.
Payment is expected at time of service, and MRI Solutions will not submit claims to insurance carriers (commercial insurance plans, Medicare, Medicaid, CHAMPUS and other government insurance programs), as MRI Solutions is not contracted with any insurance companies. Proof of payment will be provided so patients may submit claims according to their individual insurance carrier agreements.
MRI Solutions is accredited by the American College of Radiology and staffed by MRI-certified radiologic technicians. Appointments can be made Monday through Friday by calling 317-218-3006. MRI Solutions, indymri.com, is located at 8805 North Meridian Street in Indianapolis.
