Ovum has a market leading position among the research companies in the information, communication and telecom sector. When researching the open source business intelligence market, they identified RapidMiner as a leading open source data mining solutions. Ovum analyst Laurent Lachal compares RapidMiner to its proprietary counterparts SAS and SPSS and writes: “RapidMiner is more generic, with a stronger focus on flexibility, expandability, artificial intelligence methods and meta-learning, as well as on the data mining process as a whole, including arbitrary process nesting and automated optimisation.” He also states that “RapidMiner [...] has a wider area of applicability” and that it differs from its counterparts in price and usability, “based on the fact that it is both more flexible by design and that its open source status enables users to customise it to fit their specific requirements”.
