Construction of Aquascape’s 250’x90’ signature water feature is now underway in preparation for the “World’s Most Extreme Pond Build” hosted by Aquascape, Inc. from July 12th to 16th, 2008. The training event occurs at Aqualand, the company’s corporate headquarters and is open to a select group that includes Certified Aquascape Contractors, Water Garden Excellence members, and Authorized AquascapePRO distributors.
Construction materials totaling over $200,000 have been donated to the World’s Most Extreme Pond Build. Companies donating to this one-time only event currently include Carlisle SynTec, Inc. of Carlisle, PA; Ero-Tex of Menomonee Falls, WI; Toro of Bloomington, MN; Caterpillar Inc. of Peoria, IL; Unilock of Aurora, IL; Plasticraft Corp. of Darien, WI; Tour Links of St. Petersburg, FL; Kichler Lighting of Cleveland, OH; Moerings of Roosendaal, Netherlands; Tsurumi of Glendale Heights, IL; Kloubec’s Koi Farm of Amana, IA; Ball Horticulture of West Chicago, IL; Semco Outdoor of Belton, MO, DemTech of Diamond Springs, CA; Aqua Control of Spring Valley, IL; Hancor of Findlay, OH; Nibco, Inc. of Elkhard, IN; Convenience Products of Glendale Heights, IL; Midwest Trading of Virgil, IL; Midwest Groundcovers of St. Charles, IL; and Wasco Nursery of St. Charles, IL.
Excavation of the “World’s Most Extreme Pond Build” feature has been completed while underlayment donated by Ero-Tek and 36 mil reinforced polypropylene liner donated by Carlisle SynTec, Inc. were recently installed. The first shipment of the 1300 tons of boulders has arrived on site from Semco Outdoor of Belton, MO and includes granite boulders, weathered limestone for retaining walls and weathered sandstone boulders for the pond’s edge, stream, and waterfall. A cement grotto serving as a base for one of the waterfalls is in place and a berm will be constructed to naturalize the feature.
“We completed some of the basic construction so we can focus on the advanced installation techniques and methods that our customers desire during the event in July,” said Ed Beaulieu, Chief Sustainability Officer at Aquascape. “We’re videotaping the construction process and posting the clips to our web site so contractors can stay up-to-date on the project’s progress.”
