A recently released study finds 95% of youth are more likely to respect a brand if it’s associated with a good viral campaign. Almost 88% of those asked also said a good viral promotion makes them want to buy the products.
The nationwide online survey was conducted last month by Premise Immersive Marketing, a San Diego based agency which specializes in transforming brands to reach youth. Premise asked 300 males and females, ages 15-24 about their feelings and attitudes toward viral campaigns.
Premise Creative Director and Founding Partner Gregg Witt is presenting the results of the study right now at the 2008 YPulse Conference in San Francisco, CA. Witt will be presenting alongside “Futuristic Play” blogger and start-up executive Andrew Chen.
75% of respondents said they’ve participated in campaigns involving contests and passing out promotional codes and/or coupons. 73% of youth are also involved in forwarding video, while 70% say they participate in such campaigns through social networking sites. But SNS are no longer the leaders of the pack.
“This generation is made of natural-born buzzers,” says Witt. “They’re finding out about viral campaigns from each other… old-fashioned word of mouth. What’s more interesting about this study, is that intelligent viral campaigns are also effecting real change.”
While tangible prizes remain the best incentive, almost 73% of the youth said they participate in viral campaigns to make a difference and effect change.
