‘Meet Tomorrow’s Customers’, was released recently by Cubic Innovations and Axiom Consulting Australia. The report summarises the best research on emerging consumer trends and draws conclusions to give marketers insights and directions on how to interact with the customers of the not too distant future.
In releasing the report, Axiom Director Mark Fletcher said, “Whereas many trend reports are pushing a certain point-of-view and/or are limited in their coverage, ‘Meet Tomorrow’s Customer’ synthesizes a wide range of consumer trend predictions from both academic and business writers and then identifies the common themes and issues.”
The result is a succinctly written report that provides relevant insights in the main areas of:
• How will customers change?
• How will this change impact products and services?
• How will communicating with customers change?
• How might marketers start to leverage these changes?
“What we are really striving to achieve is to provide marketers with the insights to help them identify and then leverage trends for their product and service development and communication strategies” said Fletcher.
Some of the recommendations highlighted by Fletcher as worthy of consideration are:
• Actively design and market special ranges of your products/services around short run cycles to enhance their exclusivity and uniqueness
• Develop new markets by seeking ways to disaggregate and market the core elements of your products and services as individual experiences
• Extend the depth of your website by linking to everywhere that customers may want to go (not just where you want to direct them).
• Plan your media schedules by fitting your brand to specific TV/Radio programmes and not to timeslots/demographics (as these no longer define the market).
• Find ways to leverage mobile phones as a brand engagement mechanism and not just an advertising medium.
So when will we see tomorrow’s customer and when will marketers need to act?
“Now”, according to Fletcher. “Many of the trends identified are already beginning to appear in some consumer behaviour. Marketers need to start planning now.”
