Zig-Zag Cigarette Papers, one of the world’s leading brands, has released a new UK microsite with Matmi as part of a UK re-launch of the iconic JOB papers brand. Part of a campaign dubbed “The Original Double” referring to the first two-slip cigarette papers created by JOB, the site has its own original double of art and soundtrack.
Leading stuckist artist, Paul Harvey has been commissioned to create three paintings of famous modern double acts in the art nouveaux style for which Alphonse Mucha made JOB famous. The Mighty Boosh, American rock band The White Stripes and designers Gilbert & George feature in Harvey’s work for JOB and appear on the new site and as wallpaper to download. The new microsite completes its own “Original Double” with a new soundtrack from Matmi’s resident musician, James Bright.
Zig-Zag secured the distribution of JOB cigarette papers in the UK and Ireland from Imperial Tobacco in 2007 and aims to develop the brand alongside Zig-Zag in the UK, the biggest market in the world. The Original Doubles campaign utilises underground media such as fly posting on a national scale and Matmi was identified as the company best placed to develop a specific microsite that reflected the ideology of the brand.
About art nouveaux and JOB
Art nouveaux features flowers, female faces and hair, beautiful clothing and, for JOB, young women smoking sensuously. The famous branding dates back to 1896 when Jean Bardot, creator of JOB cigarette papers, commissioned Alphonse Mucha to create a series of now legendary advertising posters. The branding gained a following and did much to promote the ethos, connoisseurship and commercial success of JOB which continues today.
