The EntraLink framework and SolidWorks 3D CAD increase company-wide efficiency, improve time-to-market, and reduce Bills of Materials errors.
AimaSoft, Inc. today announced that its EntraLink Professional framework supports SolidWorks® 2008 3D CAD software with new capabilities for integrating SolidWorks drawings and its associated Bills of Materials (BOM) with a company’s existing ERP or backend database. The EntraLink Reader gives non-engineers the ability to view all the associated non-CAD documents which are required to ship a product, including SolidWorks drawings (utilizing an integrated e-Drawings), ERP-validated SolidWorks Bills of Materials, and the many other documents which make up the Product Record.
SolidWorks 2008 delivers a host of unique features to help companies design better products more quickly. The software includes more than 250 customer-requested enhancements and significant innovations that break new ground in engineering efficiency. SolidWorks 2008 provides a new intuitive, time-saving user interface (UI) as well as impressive 3D graphics, builds on the company’s breakthrough SolidWorks Intelligent Feature Technology (SWIFT), accelerates better product design, and includes more advanced design analysis capabilities than any other CAD software.
Research shows that 90 percent of engineering data is used by non-engineers. EntraLink Reader gives access to that engineering data, wherever it is needed, instantly.
EntraLink Reader links users’ disparate information so that any enterprise user can effortlessly find, view, and report documents (CAD, XLS, PDF, DOC, PPT, JPG, etc.), BOM structures, product metadata, and much more. AimaSoft best practices in managing product data, BOM, and documents improve bottom-line profitability, leverage product assets, and eliminate manual overhead.
Designers and engineers will use EntraLink and SolidWorks software to validate and associate SolidWorks part numbers against the backend ERP database, and then upload the validated BOM to the ERP. This validation process keeps eBOMs and mBOMs in sync. Mistakes caught in design are 50 to 100 times less costly than mistakes caught downstream.
EntraLink can also be used for instant quotations. Users can open a SolidWorks BOM, modify a few parts, and instantly generate an Excel spreadsheet with accurate costing and descriptions pulled directly from the ERP.
A SolidWorks Solutions Partner Product, EntraLink is a universal gateway which allows users to link multiple applications and "data silos" together in one framework. SolidWorks 2008 expands on the software’s legacy of ease of use, design power, and affordability by allowing design teams to spend more time on innovation and less on CAD software operations, ultimately making their companies more successful. Using SolidWorks and EntraLink, AimaSoft has found that a company can reduce the data management overhead of engineering by 40 percent or more. This frees up engineers to spend more time innovating within SolidWorks every week.
“Engineers don’t have time to worry about manually managing part numbers and descriptions, increased software complexity, or the potential problems of jumping between separate applications,” said SolidWorks Director of Marketing and Alliances Efrat Ravid. “Combining EntraLink framework with SolidWorks’ intuitive 3D CAD design enables engineers to focus on innovation, quality, and efficiency instead of how to use the software.”
“AimaSoft considers SolidWorks to be a highly productive 3D design environment, and integrating SolidWorks to the non-engineering departments of a company leverages a companies investment in both SolidWorks and ERP,” said Mark James, director of business development for AimaSoft, Inc. “The SolidWorks APIs enable a robust methodology for ensuring accurate BOMs for design and manufacturing, by eliminating manual data entry from engineers, which frequently leads to errors in the eBOM.”
