Phillips DiPisa, PhillipsDiPisa.com, a retained executive search firm serving healthcare providers, managed care organizations, and life sciences firms, announced that CureKids USA has hired Alan Kinniburgh, PhD, as its Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer.
CureKids is the face of the Child Health Research Foundation – an organization established more than 30 years ago to address the lack of research into life-threatening childhood illness in New Zealand. Since then, the organization has invested more than $19 million in medical research. This research has helped save hundreds of young lives and has improved the quality of life for thousands of children around the world. Its unique organizational mission is based upon an operating model of venture philanthropy and nonprofit investment in medical research and development.
With the hire of Dr. Kinniburgh, CureKids (Child Health Research Institute) is excited to launch its USA operations to be headquartered in New York with additional offices in Boston and Washington, DC. The US operations will advance the understanding and support the research efforts to improve and eliminate childhood diseases and disorders. Efforts will focus on organizations that are conducting world-class research into life-threatening childhood diseases; and approaching relationships as partnerships to drive commercially viable medical advances and results.
Alan brings 35 years of healthcare executive management experience to CureKids. Recently he served as Chief Executive Officer of the National Hemophilia Foundation in New York City, where he led its turnaround. At the Foundation, he also established a new executive leadership team, launched new fundraising initiatives, and established a Department of Public Policy to lead efforts in government relations and patient advocacy.
From 2000 to 2005, Dr. Kinniburgh was Senior Vice President of Research for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in White Plains, New York. At the Society, he oversaw grant administration and was one of its major fundraisers. Previously he served as Professor in the Department of Cancer Genetics at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, part of the State University of New York – Buffalo.
Dr. Kinniburgh reports to Neil Campbell, Executive Chairman of the Board. “We’re just delighted that a healthcare executive with Dr. Kinniburgh’s talents has elected to join our team,” noted Mr. Campbell. “He brings a wealth of relevant experience to his role, and we look forward to his guidance and leadership in the years to come.”
As noted, healthcare and life sciences executive search firm Phillips DiPisa conducted the search for Dr. Kinniburgh. “CureKids is leading the charge with its innovative approach to funding medical research for the world’s children,” noted Kevin Carroll, Life Sciences Practice Leader. “We were pleased to have had the opportunity to serve this important organization…and even more pleased to recruit an executive with Mr. Kinniburgh’s skills.”
