Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom, 2008/04/29 - Over 130 businesses have been shortlisted in the region’s very first North East Digital Awards. The shortlist was drawn up from entries who received the most votes via the Digital Awards website.

The shortlisted entries will be considered by a hand-picked panel of expert judges from across the region. The panel will decide the three main winners – best digital user, digital supplier and digital innovator, as well as choosing the winners for each Award category.
Categories range from ‘Best Use of Blogging’ to ‘Best Online Security Solution’ and ‘Best Example of Game Development’.
Pascal Fintoni, head of e-business at The North East Regional Portal, the e-business champion behind the awards, said: “I am delighted by the overwhelming response – we received over 240 entries from 139 businesses across the region.
“The Digital Awards have provided the opportunity for the region’s businesses to really shout about their achievements and demonstrate how they are using, creating and developing digital technology in the most creative and innovative ways.”
Following the judges’ decision, the winners will be announced at the Digital Awards ceremony, which will take place on 15 May in Newcastle. Local comedian Brendan Healy will host the event, with other entertainment coming from some of the region’s top video DJ’s.
The awards are supported by regional development agency One NorthEast. Emmanuelle Martinot, the Agency’s e-business Technical Adviser said: “The benefits of digital business development are huge, and businesses in this region can boast some fantastic achievements in the sector. These awards are an opportunity to highlight and celebrate those achievements.”
The Digital Awards were launched in November 2007 and are the first of their kind in the North East of England.
