Smart Approach has been swift to respond to the new industry guidelines that GSAT (General Security Awareness Training) is now a requirement of EC Regulation 2320.
From 28 January 2008 applicants must provide evidence that they have successfully completed a full GSAT course; or provide evidence of 'equivalence' and by 19 January 2009 anyone who was the holder of a full pass at 28 January 2008 must have provided evidence that they have discharged the GSAT requirements or their pass will be suspended.
Smart Approach has jointly developed the GSAT course with one of UK's largest airports and is one of the first organisations to fulfil the DfT (Department for Transport) requirements and be listed as a DfT approved supplier.
Speaking about the approval, managing Director Mike Ormesher says “Our GSAT course is a CBT (computer based training) course which is available over the internet or on CD Rom, providing the ultimate in flexibility and individuality. The course can be taken securely online or over a local network/intranet and takes in the region of four hours to complete. We are delighted to have been formally awarded DfT approval”.
He goes on to say “we are one of only a handful of approved DfT suppliers to be able to offer and deliver a computer based GSAT course. The course has been designed for all non-security personnel working airside. It is intuitive and easy to use and doesn’t require the user to have any previous computer experience”.
Providing a grounding in aviation security procedures, the GSAT course equips staff with an understanding of how to identify and deal with potentially dangerous situations, enabling them to understand the action to take in the event of an emergency.
Sales Director, Martin Miller explains, “The course is broken down into discrete modules, with interactive exercises used at the end of each section to reinforce key message. At the end of each module a multiple choice test must be undertaken before the candidate can move on to the next section. Successful candidates will be issued with a completion and pass certificate”.
