Time Warner Cable, the nation’s second largest cable television operator and provider of telecommunications services, today announced a new partnership with WKBW-Channel 7 to increase local broadcast sports programming in western New York. Time Warner Cable SportsNet on Channel 13 and WKBW-Channel 7 have reached an agreement to share high school and college sports programming in an effort to provide the community expanded opportunities to see amateur sporting events.
“Time Warner Cable surveyed its customers last year to find out what type of programming they wanted in a local origination channel. The overwhelming response was a desire for more local sports. Time Warner Cable SportsNet has been striving since November to provide the best in class coverage of high school and college sports. This partnership with WKBW provides the opportunity for collaboration between two organizations that know sports and can produce more outstanding programming for local sports connoisseurs,” said Gordon Harp, Buffalo Division President, Time Warner Cable. “Time Warner Cable is excited to begin working with Channel 7 and their expert sports department.”
“WKBW is pleased to enter into this partnership with Time Warner Cable. There is limited time during our news programming to cover local sports they way we would like. This partnership will provide Channel 7 with new avenues to explore local athletes and cover games in their entirety. We look forward to working with Time Warner Cable SportsNet to bring viewers the most comprehensive local sporting coverage possible,” stated Bill Ransom, President and General Manager, WKBW-TV, Channel 7, Granite Broadcasting Corporation.
The new partnership will begin immediately. Time Warner Cable will be the new sponsor of Super 7 Athlete of the Week and AM News Sports Minute. Appropriate shows will be aired first on channel 7 and then on Time Warner Cable SportsNet. Check your local listings for times. Channel 7 will also contribute sports updates between 3 pm and 11 pm on Channel 13.
