Cameron & Prentice - a South African firm of Chartered Accountants - has joined Russell Bedford International as the network's first member firm in Cape Town.
The firm was established as an audit practice in 1972 by Rod Cameron. Rod was joined by Peter Prentice in 1981 and the firm adopted its present name shortly afterwards. In March 2007 Cameron & Prentice merged with Warneke & Co., an audit and tax practice that had been in operation for 13 years.
Cameron & Prentice now has almost 50 personnel, led by four partners: Peter Prentice, Antonie van der Hoek, Chris Norris and David Warneke.
Peter Prentice qualified as a Chartered Accountant after completing his training contract with a Johannesburg accounting firm. He joined one of the large accounting firms, now one of the Big-4, as an accountant in 1976. Before joining Cameron & Prentice, he took up the position of financial manager, later general manager, of a Cape Town department store. Peter's specialist areas of expertise are general business consulting and the administration of deceased estates.
Antonie van der Hoek qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1993 after completing his training at a Big-4 firm. Shortly after, he joined the South African Revenue Service and worked in the income tax assessing division assessing partnerships and farming operations. For the following five years Antonie worked as a financial manager in the printing and plastics industries until 1998, when he was admitted as a partner at Cameron & Prentice. Today his strength is in audit.
Chris Norris was admitted to the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1992 after completing his three training years at a Big-4 firm. He then spent three years in the company assessing division of the South African Revenue Service as a tax assessor. In 1995 he joined another Big-4 firm as a consultant in the taxation department, specialising in corporate tax and VAT. Chris joined Cameron & Prentice as a partner in 2003 and currently is involved in both audit and taxation.
David Warneke is a specialist in taxation, both corporate and individual. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1993. He also has a Masters degree in tax law. When David's firm merged with Cameron & Prentice in 2007 he became a partner in charge of the firm’s tax department. David holds the position of senior lecturer in taxation at the University of Cape Town, and he is co-author of a text on taxation that is prescribed at most leading universities in South Africa.
Cameron & Prentice (campren.co.za) is a full-service firm offering auditing and due diligence, corporate and personal taxation services, management consulting, accounting, payroll processing, company secretarial services, wills and trusts.
From manufacturing to communications, IT to farming, film to building construction, Cameron & Prentice operates in a diverse range of industries.
