Elemental Security, Inc., the award-winning pioneer of new technology in enterprise information security, today announced that Marshall BankFirst Corp., a bank holding company headquartered in Minneapolis, has purchased Elemental’s security compliance management product to secure its network by automating security policy deployment, compliance monitoring and reporting. This month, Marshall BankFirst is rolling out the Elemental Compliance System across its multiple locations to its Windows XP desktops/laptops and Windows and Solaris servers.
Marshall BankFirst was created with the January 2005 merger of Marshall Bancorp, Inc., (Minneapolis) and BankFirst Corporation (Sioux Falls, S.D.). With the Elemental Compliance System, Marshall BankFirst now has an automated system to provide continuous compliance monitoring. Elemental’s solution provides security compliance monitoring to assure conformity with industry best practices, in addition to reviewing and reporting compliance with industry and government regulations, such as the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.
“Elemental ties in all of our information and gives us a central view of our security policies and our compliance with them,” said Tyler Brenden, Director of IT Infrastructure at Marshall BankFirst.
“Previously, it was a time-consuming challenge to manually pull all the necessary reports together for Marshall BankFirst’s routine but frequent audits and exams. This is the first product we’ve seen that, in an automated fashion, brings together all of our compliance results and reporting.”
Brenden noted that Marshall BankFirst benefits from the flexibility of Elemental’s any-time reporting, which gives granular results, at-a-glance updates, and customized reports. Marshall BankFirst is also better equipped to prove its compliance upon request. For example, a future business partner can now see Marshall BankFirst’s performance against the PCI policy baseline.
Elemental’s award-winning product is the world’s first solution that unifies policy management, host configuration, inventory management and network access control in one seamlessly integrated offering.
For the first time, enterprises can easily express cross-platform security policies that affect individual computers and their behavior on the network, gather meaningful up-to-date information to compare to established metrics, and selectively enforce policies across a diverse, dynamic environment. Security compliance has become a top priority for enterprises due to the pressures from increasing frequency and severity of security breaches, and from regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), PCI, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
In addition to helping Marshall BankFirst address improvements for internal auditing, Elemental also helps protect the organization from unwanted wireless LAN connections.
“We did not have the capability to prevent an employee from connecting to a neighboring wireless network, whether unintentionally or not,” said Brenden. “With Elemental, we’re able to prevent users from connecting to our LAN if their wireless network card is active. This was a very important issue for us. No other vendor we’ve seen has the complete arsenal to match the capabilities that Elemental delivers.”
“Marshall BankFirst is a leader specializing in commercial loan originations and participations, stored value cards and residential mortgage lending,” said Peter Watkins, Elemental CEO. “We are pleased to work with them to help improve their network security, and provide a vital tool in their compliance and reporting efforts. By utilizing the Elemental security compliance management product, Marshall BankFirst can achieve a significant ROI, operational efficiencies and industry and regulatory policy compliance.”
The Elemental Compliance System
The Elemental Compliance System is an award-winning enterprise security software solution that enables organizations to express, monitor, and enforce security policies for any computer connecting to the network. The system consists of the Elemental server and Elemental agents running on workstations and server hosts throughout a network. Elemental’s architecture is unique in its ability to detect, monitor and control hosts with or without Elemental agents running on them. The Elemental Compliance System earned an “Excellent” rating from the InfoWorld Test Center and a 9.3 score out of a possible 10, and won InfoWorld’s 2006 Technology of the Year Award. In addition, Information Security awarded it a “Hot Pick” Award, as an information security product that offers a unique solution to a persistent security problem.
