Pierre Smets is from Carcassonne, a medieval city in the South of France. After three years of training at the Hotel Marquior in his home town, Pierre received certificates from the cooking and service programs at age 17. For the next few years he worked at various restaurants in the cities of Nice, Font-Roneu and Paris. In 1989 Pierre relocated to the Island of St. Martin and was appointed Executive Chef at the Galion Resort. By 1999 after 10-years it was time for a change. San Francisco was always a dream destination. Within two days of his arrival, he was asked to fill in for a chef friend at the Paris Bistro. A few months later, Pierre began cooking at Christophe in Sausalito where he stayed for 9 years.
Pierre is very passionate about cooking and food. He believes that "food makes people happy."

Even though Pierre became the full time chef at Cote Sud only very recently, he has already put his mark on the $29.50 prix fixe menu adding such crowd pleasers as sea food basquaise "casserole", salmon wrapped in a feuille de brick with a special citrus sauce, a unique lamb tongue dish, a classic grilled hanger steak, and desserts such as his passion fruit and chocolate mousse cake and gateau basque.

He also conceived the all new early bird special menu for Cote Sud. This menu, which features a choice of 3 different appetizers, main courses and desserts, changes every 2 weeks and is available everyday from 5:30pm to 7pm for $21.00

With his extensive experience in the catering business, Pierre will also head the new catering department of Cote Sud.
