Georgette Perna has been called a voice talent to take notice of in 2008, and industry professionals have given her a nod by naming her as a finalist for “Best New Voice” for the 2008 Voicey Awards.
The Voicey Awards are hosted by Voices.com, the leading voiceover marketplace, with winners to be announced on the VOX Talk Podcast on February 21, 2008.
Perna credits her meteoric rise in the industry to voice coaching she receives from her commercial voiceover coach, Nancy Wolfson of Braintracks Audio, and her animation voiceover coach, Donna Grillo, a Voice Director and Casting Director whose credits include: SpongeBob SquarePants, Invader Zim, Dexter’s Laboratory, and Squirrel Boy.
In just her first year in the business, Perna booked national television and radio spots, a co-starring role in a groundbreaking new children’s program recently featured on NPR Marketplace, and a co-starring role on an animated series for television (currently in production), co-produced by NBC Universal, Xinhua Finance Media (Small World Television Ltd.), and Buku Entertainment. The project, entitled “Ring Force Five”, is anticipated to air on NBC during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and has the support of both the U.S. and International Olympic Committees.
Clients are quick to sing her praises. Akiko Ashley, Co-CEO of Luminetik Animation Studios, commented, “Georgette is one of the most talented artists I know. She is passionate, creative, and intelligent. I admire her for her professional approach to her craft and her quick, on the fly abilities to deliver exactly what you are looking for.”
When asked what drives her, Perna stated, “I entered the animation voiceover field because I love working with kids. I can’t think of a better job in the world, than to make kids laugh or spark their imagination.”
Perna is also an officer in a new animation industry networking organization, Animation Army, in which she coordinates events with animation studios and industry professionals, including Disney, Titmouse Studios, and others. She is an active member of Women in Animation, The Actors’ Network, and ASIFA.
In her free time Perna serves on the Board of Directors of the Ice Axe Kids Foundation, where she organizes school presentations throughout Southern California with the organization’s founder, Doug Stoup. Through in-school presentations and live video feeds of Doug from the North and South Poles, they teach kids about climate change, overcoming obstacles, and much more.
