Desire2Learn Inc., a leading provider of mission-critical enterprise eLearning solutions, announced today that it hosted a roundtable on January 29, 2008 on Assessing Student Learning Outcomes. This roundtable is part of the company’s Global Education Forum, a strategic initiative which aims to support the advancement of teaching and learning worldwide through fostering ongoing dialogue with thought leaders around the world. The roundtable, held during the 2008 EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI) Annual Meeting, in San Antonio, Texas, drew higher education leaders from across the United States and Europe.
In an effort to provide greater insight and promote collaboration on current learning issues and trends, Desire2Learn is providing a forum for education leaders to share their thoughts, research and strategies about teaching and learning practices. The roundtable, the first in the 2008 series, opened with a presentation by Dr. Rhonda D. Blackburn, Assistant Provost, Educational Enhancement, The University of Texas at Dallas. Molly Langstaff, Director, ITS Campus Technology Services, The University of Iowa, chaired the discussion. Over 23 institutions were represented at this roundtable. John Baker, Desire2Learn President and CEO, and key members of the Desire2Learn management team were also present.
Dr. Blackburn shared her perspective on how institutions can actively pursue and realize their goals in defining and implementing a holistic approach to achieving student learning outcomes. In her discussion, Dr. Blackburn highlighted the roadmap utilized at The University of Texas at Dallas and the successes realized as a result. Following the presentation, participants engaged in stimulating discussions and shared ideas and strategies. Additionally participants expressed the desire to continue the dialogue at their respective institutions and contributing towards the development of whitepapers to disseminate the key learnings.
