Ed Dunn, Chief Executive Officer and architect of Fooky.com today announce his personal blog, DreamandHustle.com. The blog will primarily cover his past and current experiences as an African-American corporate web developer and a web entrepreneur launching a search engine venture. "I'm not holding anything back; I plan to be very candid about what I've been through, what I'm dealing with and where I'm going" says Ed Dunn. The goal of DreamandHustle.com is to help motivate web entrepreneurs, particularly African-American web entrepreneurs, on how to pursue a goal of entrepreneurship while balancing a full-time career and dealing with the challenges of discrimination and personal conflicts.
Ed Dunn dream and hustle began on the Web in 1994 selling 12-inch dance records while in college at Southern Illinois University, hosting a web page under the school domain. After graduating in 1995, Ed had worked as an administrative assistant at the American Marketing Association in Chicago. While there, Ed Dunn who already had an educational interest in marketing began to take advantage of the Internet marketing books and resources available. It was in 1996 Ed was recruited by an angel investor to start developing web sites on an entrepreneurial basis. Also in 1996, Ed Dunn created a niche web directory called International Black Index Source (IBIS) Directory also known as blackindex.com. IBIS catered to the African Diaspora audience and received many positive reviews and write-ups. In 1997, Ed Dunn was able to have an impressive portfolio to start a career in web development and landed his first contracting job as a webmaster at Kraft Foods. From there, Ed Dunn worked at a number of firms as a web developer from dotcom startups, to Fortune 1000 corporations covering industries from telecommunications to financial services. In 1999, Ed Dunn ceased operating the International Black Index Source Directory to start on a new search engine service known as Fooky.com. Ed Dunn worked on Fooky.com from 1999 to 2005 on a part-time basis while employed full-time as a corporate web developer.
This year Ed Dunn plan to proliferate Fooky.com to compete directly against the status quo search/portal destination firms such as Yahoo! Google and MSN. "Many people think I'm chasing a pipe dream but if they knew my history and experience with the Web and search/portal technologies, they would know I'm fully capable of what I'm setting out to do" says Ed Dunn.
In addition to covering day-to-day topics about the startup and proliferation of Fooky.com business, Ed Dunn also plan to contribute tips and advice on handling a corporate career while starting a web operation. From his perspective, Ed Dunn will address dealing with racial adversity such as workplace discrimination and snubs by mainstream media tech writers and venture capital firms - both who he feels overlook African-American talent in the tech sector. Ed Dunn want African-American web entrepreneurs to see the advantage of the racial adversities and turn the negative into a positive.
"The fact I was discriminated against at certain jobs was a plus because it allowed me to have motivation to pursue my entrepreneurial goals" says Ed Dunn. "I also saw the media snub as an advantage because it allowed me to develop in stealth mode very effectively and now the competition simply won't know what will hit them until it's too late" he added. DreamandHustle.com also plans to cover topics concerning everyday life from an African-American entrepreneurial perspective as well as feature motivational song snippets and commentary.
