Today, Baseball Insights releases its 2008 Player Guidance, which sets the statistical values of more than 1,200 MLB players by expected fantasy outcomes. Much like an investment bank, Baseball Insights uses the power of analytics to set guidance on players at the beginning of every season, then provides alerts for “buy low” and “sell high” opportunities throughout the season.
As the fantasy baseball industry continues to grow at double-digit rates, an increasing array of information has become available to the average fantasy player, including real-time performance statistics, player news alerts and pundit predictions. With over three million playing today, fantasy general managers are seeking new ways to achieve a competitive edge. The most significant competitive edge rests in the ability to select players with the highest upside potential, and to “buy low” or “sell high” throughout the season to maximize the value each position contributes to the roster.
“We see this paradigm of player valuation and management synonymous to selecting and maintaining stock investments,” said David Wysocky president of Baseball Insights. “That’s why we modeled Baseball Insights after the investment banking industry which has developed the most accurate and user-friendly methodologies for setting guidance and providing alerts for decades.”
Founded by analytics professionals including a Yale University PhD Statistician, Baseball Insights has utilized advanced algorithms to statistically model expected outcomes for more than 1,200 MLB players using traditional fantasy auction league values. These expected outcomes are issued today in Baseball Insights’ 2008 Player Guidance. Going beyond Guidance, Baseball Insights also issues Alerts throughout the year to provide critical insight into trading opportunities, roster moves, and keepers for subsequent years.
Key finding for this years Guidance are as follows:
• Despite off-season surgery, Hanley Ramirez (SS, FLA) is projected to outperform Alex Rodriguez (3B, NYY) for the highest 2008 fantasy value;
• Edwin Encarnacion (3B, CIN) will be the fantasy breakout performer of the year;
• Andre Ethier (OF, LAD) and Carlos Villanueva (SP, MIL) will out perform all expectations provided by traditional fantasy baseball pundits.
