DECO Enterprises was founded in 1958 by David Richardson in Anderson, Indiana. In 1976, David Richardson moved the company to California, where the first DECO Enterprises EXIT sign, the E-1, was manufactured in 1982. The E-1 was an innovative EXIT sign and offered a winning combination of visual aesthetics and a longer life than any competitive EXIT sign on the market.
During the next several decades, the company continued to grow and expand into new markets. In 1988 the company created a new subsidiary company called DECO Lighting. In 1990, DECO introduced the ECX-1; weighing only 10 pounds; it was the world's lightest and most flexible combination emergency / EXIT sign.
DECO's new product lines boast many of the products that made DECO great: durable EXIT signs, sturdy lighting and electrical components.
