Leading Irish based hotel room supplier Global Hotels is set to pursue an aggressive online campaign in a bid to attract more visitors to Ireland’s second city Cork. According to Managing Director Dara Ward “Cork is a fantastic location to visit for business or pleasure. The selection and value we offer on all our hotels in Cork is quite simply second to none. The fact that daily flights from Dublin and the UK operate into Cork makes it an extremely viable option as a short break destination and we are keen to capitalize on this” he states.
Global Hotels is a leading provider of hotel rooms worldwide and operates in excess of 100 websites. Currently all sites are undergoing a major revamp which is expected to be complete by early 2008. Plans are already underway to allow more customer interaction and better usability on the sites. “Our goal is to allow our customers book a hotel in any location worldwide with the minimum of time and effort whilst at the same time ensuring they get rates that are highly competitive. We have identified Cork as the ideal location to test our new technology and to gauge customer feedback. Based on this our intention is to roll out a similar structure on over 100 of our travel related websites. We are very excited about our plans and have recently opened a new office in South Africa to assist in the overall strategic implementation of our strategies” continues Ward.

According to Failte Ireland-Ireland’s national tourism authority, in 2006 just under 7,600,000 visitors were on domestic trips (Irish and Northern Irish vacationers) and just under 6,500,000 were foreign visitors represented predominately by:
• Great Britain with nearly 1,600,000 visitors,
• USA with around 870,000 guests,
• Germany providing nearly 300,000 tourists,
• France accounting for a slightly lower number and
• Italian visitors accounted for almost 200,000.
