Lafayette, IN, United States, 2007/11/18 - A patent issued to a researcher in Germany claims a novel way to save the energy consumed by widely used multi-core microprocessors. The "green" patent will be offered or sale by a leading US intellectual property consulting firm.

AmiCOUR International has been retained by Adam Hutson Research to sell its primary United States Patent related to new multicore processors. The patent numbered 6,026,493, titled 'System for Conserving Energy Among Electrical Components' describes control technologies to save energy in systems using two or more microprocessors, including certain applications related to new multicore processor chips.

AmiCOUR recruited top industry talent to help sell the Hutson ‘493 patent, calling on former Licensing Executives Society president Dwight Olson to assist with the sale. Olson has a background in computer systems development and parallel processing. He remarked, “This patent appears to have real value in today’s multiprocessor, energy sensitive computing environments. As we see portable devices requiring increased functionality, system designs that conserve battery life are essential to product success.”
The “green” patent teaches effective approaches to powering down processors when they are not needed, an idea advanced by Hutson long before energy related environmental issues drew global concern. Olson explained, “Many processors are powered up all the time but perform work only a fraction of the time.”
He added, “Today’s cost of producing processor cores is low enough that clusters of application specific processors are becoming economically feasible. One type of processor can be powered up for a phone call and a different type can clock up to play a video. Each microprocessor can be designed to perform its own task with minimal energy consumption. This is ideal for battery powered multifunction devices.” AmiCOUR indicated that its client has agreed to provide technical consulting if the buyer would benefit.
The company did not specify a deadline for selling the patent. “We want everyone to have a fair chance to review the patent carefully,” stated Bechtel. “I am sure Dwight will contact industry members who generally have an interest in this type of strategic patent. If we miss someone, I hope they will get in touch with Dwight to learn more about Hutson’s patent and all that we have to offer.”
