Huawei builds 10,000 kms National Long Distance backbone for VSNL
• Mandate to Huawei includes managed services, a first in India amongst fixed network operators;
• Backbone network spans over 100 cities;
• Network backbone to deliver high quality multi-play, multimedia broadband services to customers.
Huawei Telecommunications India, the Indian subsidiary of Huawei, a global leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators worldwide today announced that it has built a 10,000km optical transmission National Long Distance backbone for the Tata Group owned VSNL, the world’s largest provider of wholesale International voice services.
The backbone network spread across India spanning over 100 cities has been built using Huawei’s state-of-the-art Next Generation DWDM products & solution based on its Super WDM platform. In its fully equipped state, the offered Super WDM system is capable of providing bandwidth of the order of 1.6 Terabits. The project mandate for Huawei also includes provision of Managed Services - a first in India by any fixed network operator. Huawei landed this project for turnkey supply of 10Gb, Multi-reach, Ultra Long Haul DWDM optical transmission equipment in July 2006.
According to Mr. M R Madhusudhan, Head-Network Global Operations VSNL,“A competent technical evaluation authority appointed by VSNL successfully carried out rigorous validation and testing of the Super WDM equipment over a prolonged period before clearing its large scale deployment. We are delighted with the performance of the DWDM equipment from Huawei as it has not only reduced the capital and operating expenditure but has also significantly enhanced the reliability and availability of the network while providing for investment protection. We expect this network backbone to deliver high quality multi-play, multimedia broadband services to all our end customers”
