This Award is presented in recognition of the Codian MCU 4500 Series of high definition (HD) videoconferencing bridges, which provides a user-friendly interface and feature set.
"Launched in December 2006, the Codian MCU 4500 Series offers a high quality and powerful HD multipoint videoconferencing experience," notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Roopam Jain. "It supports full-motion HD continuous presence conferencing with a mix of SD and HD endpoints."
Resulting from four years of R&D work, the Codian MCU 4500 Series utilizes the latest in chip technology from TI. The use of next generation digital signal processors (DSPs) enables the series to provide ten times the MIPs of Codian's MCU 4200 Series.
In terms of HD performance, the series supports 720 pixels at 30 frames per second and can scale to support the same resolution at 60 frames per second or 1080 pixels at 30 frames per second.
The Codian MCU 4500 Series also includes Codian ClearVision™ technology, a unique feature that transforms poor quality images from standard and enhanced definition endpoints by up to 4x the resolution to deliver "near" high-definition clarity, no matter where they originate.
In the context of interoperability, the MCU 4500 Series works with both ISDN and IP connections, does not restrict the number of conferences, and supports multiple vendors HD end points.
"Moreover, as with all Codian MCU's, this series delivers a unique video stream for each participant, enabling them to receive video at the maximum capability of their own endpoint," explains Jain. "Accordingly, the SD participant will see SD, and the HD participant will see HD, each receiving the best possible video quality."
Another unique feature of any Codian MCU is that each user can independently select its own continuous presence layout and the sites to be viewed without affecting other users.
The Codian MCU 4500 Series also includes an integrated streaming server, video firewall, scheduler and gatekeeper. The streaming server allows users to stream the conference to allow participants to view content without video conferencing equipment. Users can have one person on videoconferencing equipment, while others can view it on their PC as a stream.
