Specialized Technology Resources, Inc. (STR) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Cal Safety Compliance Corporation (CSCC), have expanded service capabilities to Egypt. STR is a US-based global provider of quality assurance services including testing and inspections, and CSCC is a leader and pioneer in responsible sourcing services that include monitoring, training and education, and consulting. Both companies have recognized the need for on-the-ground personnel in Egypt, a growing exporter of goods to European and American markets.
“It became an obvious need to get appropriate capabilities in place in Egypt,” says Mike Potterton, General Manager for STR’s operations in Turkey and the Middle East. “Since attaining QIZ status from the US, Egypt has become an increasingly significant manufacturer in the region.”
QIZ stands for “Qualifying Industrial Zone”. Similar in concept to FTZs (Free Trade Zones), goods manufactured within a QIZ are eligible to enter the United States tariff-free, subject to the rules set out by the protocol.
“CSCC alone has seen a 25% increase in client requests for assessments in the Middle East and North Africa over the last two years,” says Carina Carrasco, Global Operations Manager at CSCC. “It was the right time for us to invest in local presence on the ground.”
For STR and CSCC, work in Egypt, and more broadly in the Middle East and North Africa regions, had been conducted for years by flying personnel in from other areas of the world. Now STR and CSCC clients should see faster response time for work orders in the region, and will benefit from the companies’ ability to more closely track local industry trends and activities.
STR and CSCC’s Egypt-based personnel are available immediately for quality inspections and social assessments in Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco, and other locations throughout the Middle East and North Africa, while laboratory tests and general operations will continue to be handled by the companies’ shared regional headquarters in Istanbul, Turkey.
