Specialized Technology Resources (STR), through its wholly owned subsidiary, Cal-Safety Compliance Corporation (CSCC), recently became authorized to provide adult training and education in accordance with the standards set by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET). The accreditation is not only an acknowledgment that the company’s training and education management systems comply with educational best practices, but also allows learners the opportunity to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs), which are credits that can be applied towards degree programs and professional certifications at CEU-accepting institutions.
“For CSCC, the accreditation really gives our training and education programs a certain amount of credibility,” says Greg Gardner, Chief Executive Officer at CSCC. “We have always received very positive feedback about the quality of our training programs from clients, but it’s definitely important that we get a credible stamp of approval from a respected international organization that knows what a proper training and education department should ideally look like. Now, our IACET accreditation does just that.”
IACET is an internationally recognized standard of excellence in continuing education that boasts a large contingent of academic institutions and corporate providers of adult education and training as authorized providers and CEU-accepting institutions. The accreditation affirms an organization’s ability to adhere to 10 criteria when carrying out its training and education programs, including needs assessment, learning outcomes, instructional methodology, and evaluation.
“There has been a boom in the number of academic institutions partnering with industry to round out the theory with hands-on learning,” says Cara Chacon, Director of Training and Education. “The fact that IACET CEUs are accepted by a number of recognized academic institutions means that the technical and methodological aspects of our training and education programs are on par with that of universities and colleges so we are in a position to capitalize on that trend. In fact, we are very excited to be teaching a corporate social responsibility (CSR) and supply chain security course for UCLA’s Extension program this fall, which was made possible by our IACET-authorized status.”
Along with the value added to external trainings for STR clients, the company’s internal training programs will also benefit from the new status with IACET. Specifically, STR’s responsible sourcing field staff training complies with IACET guidelines. The 11-module training program is, as a result, more rigorous than many of the certifications and professional standards trainings currently available.
