Skip Haynes and Dana Walden of the L.A. based Laurel Canyon Animal Company (the only record label that creates music about, for and with animals) have made an unprecedented decision to sell their digital albums for 99 cents. When asked what prompted this move Haynes replied, “The dolphins told us to do it.”

Haynes and Walden started the Laurel Canyon Animal Company to make music about animals but gradually shifted their focus to making songs with animals. Their first inter-species communication project was with Koko, the signing gorilla. It was followed by Songs to Make Dogs Happy which utilized canine focus groups and animal communicator Dr. Kim Ogden to create songs that appealed specifically to dogs.

The next creation, Music From The Pink Dolphins, used multiple communicators to translate for the Pink River Dolphins of the Amazon to obtain guidance for the music and lyrical content. World-renowned animal communicator Penelope Smith translated messages from the dolphins that called for awareness and personal responsibility in the human relationship with the earth and our environment. The dolphin’s transmissions also predicted the tsunami, Katrina and other natural disasters.

During the project the dolphins came to Walden in a dream and gave him specific guidance regarding the marketing of the album. They told him that the Laurel Canyon Animal Company needed to share the music (which contains the vibrational messages that humans need to receive) by making it affordable for everyone. Sell the albums for 99 cents was the strong suggestion. The message was also relayed that if and only if the dolphin’s guidance was followed the project would succeed.

Haynes and Walden finished the project and released the album to the world. They followed the dolphin’s advice up to a point. “We are a small company that can barely pay the rent. A lot of money went into the production of Music From The Pink Dolphins. I could not see how we could recoup by selling the album for 99 cents.” Haynes said.

The album was released but attracted no interest. The few people who did hear it said it was by far the best musical work the Laurel Canyon Animal Company had created to date. Haynes and Walden shelved the project in frustration wondering what had gone wrong.

Months after the failed attempt at promoting the album Walden received a call from Jill Combine, a psychic from Atlanta. She said the dolphins had given her a message regarding the album. The dolphins told her the project was not successful because the Laurel Canyon Animal Company had not followed the guidance that had been given them. They also told her that Walden would know what that meant. “When Jill told me about her encounter with the dolphins I knew immediately that they were referring to the 99 cent albums” Walden recounted.

So once again the Laurel Canyon Animal Company is sending the message and Music From The Pink Dolphins out to the world but this time they are following the marketing advice of the dolphins.

All Laurel Canyon Animal Company digital download albums will now be priced at 99 cents—Songs To Make Dogs Happy, Koko - Fine Animal Gorilla, Bring An Animal Home For The Holidays, Ugly Dogs Need More Love, I’m A Green Chicken and Cat On The Keys.

The Laurel Canyon Animal Company donates hundreds of CDs a year to rescue organizations to help them fund operations.
