The Townsend, Massachusetts Public Officials are taking steps to improve the local environment, by allowing Yard Spice Organics, LLC to implement an organic natural program on the municipal lawn areas at the Town Hall, Library, and town square with organic / natural fertilizers and methods.
Last year 2006, Townsend Selectman Robert Plamondon and Conservation Officer Mike Turgeon requested that the land care company, “Yard Spice Organics, LLC” make an open presentation to the citizens of the town on the benefits of organic land care. Yard Spice Organics, LLC with the help of the Northeast Organic Farmers Association, Ecological Landscape Association, and Beyond Pesticides all came together for the first precedent time and presented facts and awareness on lawn care during the public seminar.
This March, The Town Selectmen expressed their desire to maintain the town’s common areas as organic lawns. The Selectmen at a following town meeting approved the Yard Spice Organics, LLC contract for service. The town’s budget was diminished by growing cost, and therefore, Yard Spice Organics, LLC decided to donate their services and Bradfield Organics, LLC (A Purina Mills Company) a supplier also will be donating the products for the first year.
