As the 2005 recipient, Mr. Dion has the additional prestige of being the first out of state recipient in the history of this award. He was selected to receive this prestigious award because of his significant professional successes in his twenty-five years in healthcare including:
He served as a firefighter/paramedic, emergency department registered nurse at an inner-city trauma center, nurse informationist specializing in electronic medical records and a nurse entrepreneur.
In 1998, he developed and founded Decision Critical, Inc., a company dedicated to improving patient care through the improvement of nursing knowledge and education. Under Mr. Dion’s guidance and direction, the company now serves over 200 hospitals from Alaska to Kuwait providing critical education to over 200,000 healthcare professionals.
He maintains a leadership role in the development of student nurses; including Decision Critical’s pro-bono development and ongoing support of the National Student Nurses’ Association LeadershipU website.
Under his direction, Decision Critical also developed a web-based learning management system for NursingSpectrum/ NurseWeek to deliver education to over 50,000 nurses.
In 2003, Mr. Dion was presented the Healthcare Hero Award by the Austin Business Journal in recognition of his efforts and contributions to healthcare.
Mr. Dion is an instructor at the University of Texas at Austin in the School of Nursing, Department of Nursing Systems.
Finally, Mr. Dion has remained committed to his personal betterment by maintaining his license as a registered nurse, completion of his MSN/MBA and entering into his Doctoral Candidacy at the University of Texas Austin in May, 2005.
