Acronis, Inc., the technological leader in storage management software, announced that its newly released, next-generation of the Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 provides users with enhanced partition management and multibooting capabilities.
New features in Acronis Disk Director Suite include wizards to explore and edit data and the partition’s structure, split partition, and merge partitions. Enhanced features to the Acronis OS Selector portion of the product include booting from a second hard disk drive, booting from a CD or DVD, and enhanced operating system detection that can locate deleted operating systems.
“Advances in data storage capacities and the growing interest in running multiple operating systems are not insignificant advancements in corporate and personal computing,” said Walter Scott, CEO of Acronis. “Massive hard disks, advanced video and audio capabilities, and the emergence of Linux represent a sea change in how users today are using their computers. As a result, they need even more advanced disk and systems tools to help them manage these powerful computers.
“Acronis is dedicated to provide these tools and ensure that every user, from novice to engineer, can take advantage of these latest technological advances,” he continued.
“With Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0, users no longer have to choose between having a system configured they way they want it and hiring a technician to do the task,” said Stephen Lawton, Acronis director of marketing. “User-friendly wizards and powerful step-by-step operations mean that any user can repartition and manipulate monster hard disks or run multiple operating systems – even multiple versions of Windows.”
Here’s a breakdown on the new and enhanced features in the product:
• Splitting/merging partitions
You can split a partition into two partitions, moving selected folders to the new partition and leaving the rest of the data on the old one. You are able to distribute the partition free space between the two resulting partitions. You also can merge two partitions in one as well, even if their file systems are different. All data will stay intact and reside on the resulting partition.
• Exploring partitions, including ability to manage folders and files
You can explore a partition’s contents before configuring operations on that partition directly from the Acronis Disk Director Suite. You can also create new folders, copy/paste files and delete files and folders on the selected partition.
• Boot from CD item in Acronis OS Selector boot menu
If you insert a bootable CD/DVD, it will be detected and displayed in the boot menu/main window along with other available operating systems. The CD/DVD may contain any operating system or bootable program. You will see its icon in the boot menu. It allows you to boot or install an operating system from CD.
• OS Detection Wizard
The Operating System detection tool allows an inadvertently deleted operating system to be found and added to OS Selector boot menu. If an operating system on a newly connected disk was not detected automatically, you can add it to boot menu using this tool.
• Boot from second Hard Disk Drive
Generally, Windows can boot only if its boot files reside on the first disk identified in the system BIOS. If you connect a valid system hard disk drive (HDD) to your computer that taken from another computer where it was the first disk, your system will identify it as a second, third, fourth or other disk drive. OS Selector now can manage situations like that and automatically reset the disks order, required for booting the selected operating system. As a result, any disk can be in the “first” disk drive position.
List price for Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 remains at $49.99, the same price it has been since the product originally was launched. It is currently shipping.
