New Vista Corporation has developed Thread Chasing Units for cleaning out existing internal or external threads in production parts. The all-electric unit, which includes a servomotor, servo drive, and motion programming, can clear weld spatter, chips, paint, or burrs. Forward torque is adjustable up to 10 ft/lbs. Reverse torque is 20 ft/lbs to assure tool won’t stick in threads. The Unit is designed to never cut a new thread. If the size or location of the blockage is such that the existing thread can not be picked up without the risk of cutting a secondary (out of phase) thread, the spindle will automatically stop advancing and signal a reject. The torque of each TCU is individually set according to thread size, and is field adjustable. Three sizes will chase threads from 3mm to 50mm (#4 to 2”). Will chase blind features to full depth. Supplied ready to be integrated, or as part of a full turnkey system.

Thread Chasing Units are a complement to New Vista’s lower-torque Thread Verification Unit product line that is used for high-speed thread inspection and thread detection.

For threads that can be off-axis or off-angle, New Vista manufactures an Off-Axis Adapter. This floating adapter will find and follow threaded holes (or external threads) that are out of position (up to 3.5 mm true position) and out of square (settable: 0-5º). To avoid cross threading, the adapter is designed to first accommodate out of position threads, and then accommodate variances in angularity.
