Frost & Sullivan has recognized Geratherm Medical AG with the 2007 European Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Innovation for developing a unique solar-powered clinical thermometer that offers an ecofriendly alternative to standard temperature measurement methods.
The Geratherm solar thermometer carries a high-end capacitor that absorbs ambient light. The solar energy is absorbed and stored in the unit and is discharged as and when a temperature reading is required. As the capacitor is quite powerful, the thermometer has the ability to take temperature readings even in darkness.
“Geratherm has been consistently working toward improving temperature monitoring systems through innovative synthesis of alternative energy sources with modern measurement technologies to generate an environment friendly mode of clinical temperature measurement,” notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Bhuvaneashwar Subramanian.
In the early 1990s Geratherm introduced the use of Galinstan as a safer substitute for mercury in clinical thermometers.
“Taking a cue from the performance of the Galinstan-based thermometers in the United States and Europe, the Geratherm solar thermometer gains an edge over existing clinical thermometers with respect to the current environmental regulations that have been enforced toward adopting environmental friendly solutions,” explains Subramanian.
The clinical solar from existent digital clinical thermometers as it eliminates the dangers of chemical spillage thermometer differs and leakage that are associated with battery-operated devices.
With the development of a solar-powered thermometer, Geratherm has emerged as a trendsetter by providing end users with a healthy alternative within the scope of clinical thermometry and diagnosis.
Testifying to the breadth and scope of alternative clinical thermometry solutions, Geratherm has gained wide popularity in Europe and in the United States as a recognized manufacturer of alternative thermometry.
Geratherm’s solar thermometer has been released at a time when there is a focus on developing ecofriendly alternatives in medical devices including thermometers and blood pressure monitors. Geratherm’s innovations pertaining to body warming systems have been extensively employed in emergency situations.
The solar panel-based technology developed by Geratherm has undergone extensive clinical trials in collaboration with Linda Smith, assistant professor at the Oregon Health and Science University, Oregon, and recently received a patent for the holding device consisting of the solar panel.
The success of Galinstan as a widely accepted alternative for mercury thermometers in the American and European communities has in essence provided Geratherm the necessary platform for product innovation on the lines of temperature measurement.
Each year Frost & Sullivan Product Innovation Award is presented to the company that has demonstrated excellence in new products and technologies within its industry. The recipient company has shown innovation by launching a broad line of emerging products and technologies.
