There has been some heated discussions on many of the forums regarding the need to be a bonded seller. Many dealers feel this is just another chance for someone to charge another fee. Others feel that it’s an insult to the already existing policies of honest dealers. There is also a contingent that feels it gives dealers who choose it an unfair advantage over those who don’t. Some wonder why eBay didn’t think of it first.
Mama’s Treasures has recently become a bonded seller through buySafe and it’s surety partners. I chose to do this because I believe in customer service and protection for both the seller and buyer. It gives me peace of mind that my items are guaranteed by a third party to be as described. I like the idea that my customers don’t have to worry when making a purchase. I think this is important, especially for the buyer who is making his or her first time internet purchase.
I know how frustrating and hurtful it can be to buy an item that was misrepresented or not have it arrive at all. I’ve been one of many who have tried to file complaints and find they really go nowhere. The money is gone and you’re left feeling violated as surely as someone who has been burglarized. I want my customers to know that they will never experience this at Mama’s Treasures. Yes, it’s already in my policies, and certainly it’s something I would never do to anyone; but now someone else is guaranteeing it too. I believe the small fee I pay for this service is worth my customers peace of mind. I like to think of it as a gift I can give them over time they choose to shop at my store.
I take pride in saying that I am a bonded seller. I have been evaluated through a business inspection that verified my reputation, identity, online sales experience, and financial stability. My customers can buy with confidence. when they see the buySAFE seal on my store items and auction listings, it means the transaction is financially protected up to $25,000 by buySAFE and it’s surety partners.
Many may disagree with me but I think this issue of being bonded will continue to grow. I remember when I said I’d never leave my real mall space, sell on the internet, or take charge cards. A wise person once told me to “never say never.” My business is entirely web based, I sell like crazy on the internet, and I most certainly take charge cards. New ideas are hard to accept for anyone, but I believe you have to look at a very broad picture of the issue and not just focus on one aspect of the idea.
I will always strive to give my customers the best there is to offer promising to be
progressive in my business practices. Bonding may not be every dealer’s choice, but it is mine. It’s a decision I don’t believe I will regret because I think it promotes a win-win situation for everyone involved. Most good ideas that have come along in the last 200 years did the same.
