Lee Ludlum, Sector Director Lead Rail Systems at AtkinsRéalis said: "Upgrading the UK’s rail signaling system depends on the safe and efficient integration of new and existing technologies within a live operational environment. This framework with Knorr-Bremse builds on our successful partnership and supports our ability to deploy our Advanced Signaling Method at pace minimising disruption for passengers and operators, while delivering predictable outcomes for clients."

ElectroLogIXS is a SIL4-certified, Network Rail-approved signaling, interlocking, object controller and level crossing solution designed to improve the safety, reliability and operational efficiency of modern railway infrastructure. Its modular architecture and advanced digital capabilities make it well suited to support the evolving needs of the UK rail industry.

In operation, ElectroLogIXS controls how trains move through sections of track by ensuring points are set correctly and level crossings operate safely, helping to prevent conflicting train movements and minimise delays. Under the framework agreement, Knorr-Bremse will supply ElectroLogIXS units, while AtkinsRéalis will provide design, integration, deployment and commissioning of turnkey signaling systems using the ElectroLogIXS platform.

The partnership brings together Knorr-Bremse's expertise in signaling technology and AtkinsRéalis' project delivery and Advanced Signaling Method (ASM) capabilities, building on a long standing collaboration to support the ongoing modernisation of the UK's rail network. The signing of this agreement represents a major step for KB Signaling, Knorr-Bremse's business unit which specialises in upgrading and modernising rail infrastructure and networks by delivering smart electronics and intelligent signaling solutions.

With the advancement of ElectroLogIXS and many other signaling products, Knorr-Bremse is further cementing its presence as a key player in the signaling market, underlining its commitment to delivering safe and efficient solutions for the UK rail industry and beyond.

Knorr Bremse is currently supplying ElectroLogIXS for deployment on the Havant re-signaling project, which AtkinsRéalis is delivering as part of the Train Control Systems Framework (TCSF).
