• Another customer opts for electric power steering (EPS), reinforcing Knorr-Bremse’s position in the steering market;
• Efficiency booster: lower fuel consumption, lower CO2 emissions, lower operating costs, and up to 90 percent energy savings;
• Knorr-Bremse’s EPS: the ideal solution for trucks, buses, and other heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
This advanced steering system is a true game-changer: energy is consumed only when the vehicle is being steered. In the Asia-Pacific region, Knorr-Bremse has now secured another customer for EPS series production, thereby strengthening its position in the steering market. The SOP is scheduled for 2028.
Bernd Spies, Member of the Executive Board of Knorr-Bremse AG and globally responsible for the Commercial Vehicle Systems Division: “Our EPS is one of the key enablers for e-mobility and automated driving for commercial vehicles. This additional series order is proof that our innovations are playing a decisive role in shaping the mobility of tomorrow. We now have EPS production orders for commercial vehicles and buses in Europe and Asia, once again underscoring our role as a technology leader.”
High energy efficiency, lower CO₂ emissions, and seamless integration
Using the “power-on-demand” principle, EPS reduces vehicles’ energy and fuel consumption, regardless of the powertrain technology. As an efficiency booster, the EPS enables energy savings of up to 90 percent compared to conventional steering systems, thereby ensuring lower CO₂ emissions and reduced operating costs.
In addition, the EPS can be adapted to the customer’s specific installation space, enabling seamless integration into existing vehicle architectures without costly modifications for manufacturers. Another advantage: significant additional cost savings for customers, as the EPS’s Smart Safety concept eliminates the need for a redundant power supply. Thanks to its hydraulic operating principle, the EPS can be used to support multi-axle vehicles based on existing vehicle architecture across all vehicle classes. At the same time, the EPS meets all regulatory requirements in the markets, offering a ready-to-use system solution.
