Curtiss-Wright announced today Cisco completed its Network Function Virtualization Infrastructure Software (NFVIS) certification on the PacStar 451 server, enabling customers to deploy Cisco and third-party virtual network functions (VNF) side-by-side on PacStar 400-series hardware that is optimized for tactical edge deployments.
Cisco NFVIS is a type-1 hypervisor optimized for virtual network services, such as virtual routers, firewalls and WAN accelerators. With an intuitive user interface and multi-vendor flexibility to provision VNFs in minutes, the NFVIS hypervisor helps users to simplify operations and maximize hardware investment across distributed networks while meeting the US Government’s FIPS 140-3 cryptographic standards.
“PacStar 451 is a compact, rugged and powerful server module frequently used for VNF deployment in austere, remote environments where connectivity is crucial for mission success,” said Roark McDonald, Vice President and General Manager of Tactical Communications, Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions. “Building on our long-standing Cisco partnership, this NFVIS certification for PacStar 451 allows users to more easily and securely deploy virtual network services at the tactical edge, while minimizing space and maintenance requirements.”
Certified to Cisco NFVIS 26.1.1, Curtiss-Wright’s PacStar 451 meets size, weight, and power (SWaP) requirements unmatched by other COTS appliances of its kind, and is available with a wide variety of pre-loaded, pre-secured, and pre-qualified software applications or virtualized appliances appropriate for use in tactical C5ISR/EW applications, including, but not limited to:
Virtualized and software-defined networking and WAN, routing, switching
• VPN, TLS encryption, PKI;
• Cybersecurity: firewalls, IDS, threat analytics, SIEM, NetFlow;
• Unified communications;
• Video encoding, transcoding, and analytics;
• Tactical cloud deployment;
• Mobile device and wireless network management;
• Hyper-convergence and storage;
• General-purpose application hosting.
As service branches modernize communication architectures US Army NGC2 and US Marine Corps Project Dynamis, for example the need for connectivity at the tactical edge is becoming more critical than ever. This certification expands options for establishing connectivity in the most remote and austere environments.
As a Cisco solutions technology integrator, Curtiss-Wright offers a wide variety of advanced tactical communications solutions in the PacStar product line, including embedded Cisco routing and switching technologies to address a wide range of military, intelligence and commercial applications.
