• On-board gensets of the D3872 for 50 Hz (840 kW) and 60 Hz (960 kW);
• Available emission standards: IMO Tier II, IMO Tier III and EU Stage V;
• Engine now available.

With the introduction of the new MAN D3872 as an engine for on-board units, MAN Engines is adding another modern and powerful option for maritime applications to its 30-litre engine range. The auxiliary engine, based on the proven V12 platform, has been specially developed for on-board power generators and diesel-electric propulsion systems and represents the next step in the consistent expansion of the range for workboats and yachts. With the additional variant now available, MAN Engines covers the entire spectrum of the 30-litre series and offers operators and shipyards a technically uniform engine family for a wide range of application profiles.

The new engine takes advantage of all the advantages of the 30-litre V12 configuration, which has already proven itself in demanding applications in the drive versions of the range. These include an extremely compact design, a high power-to-installation space ratio and a robust mechanical design, which is particularly required in professional continuous load applications.

Two power levels are available for auxiliary operation: 840 kW at 50 Hz in the MAN D3872 LE32x variant and 960 kW at 60 Hz in the MAN D3872 LE33x. These output ratings enable flexible integration into both classic on-board electrical systems and diesel-electric systems, where efficiency, smooth running and variable load requirements play a special role. The load switching behavior of the MAN D3872 Auxiliary impresses with its fast and stable response to changing load requirements, which ensures a reliable power supply even in the event of sudden load changes. Thanks to the robust design of the 30-litre engine, performance remains consistently high even under demanding operating conditions, ensuring smooth operation.

Thanks to its compact architecture, the MAN D3872 LE3xx can also be used in confined engine rooms of space-critical ship projects. This is especially true for workboats, offshore utilities, ferries and larger yachts, where modular energy systems and hybrid propulsion solutions are increasingly in demand. The ability to use the engine both as a pure on-board unit and as part of a diesel-electric propulsion concept creates additional degrees of freedom for shipbuilders and system integrators an advantage that is becoming increasingly important in view of growing requirements for flexibility and emission reduction.

A key component of the new auxiliary variants is the ability to meet all glob-ally relevant maritime emission standards. As an engine for on-board units, the MAN D3872 covers IMO Tier II, IMO Tier III and EU Stage V and uses the modular and extremely space-saving MAN exhaust gas aftertreatment. Depending on market requirements, it can be configured with SCR or SCR-DPF systems, thus enabling both compliance with the highest emission requirements and optimal use of the available installation space. The high flexibility of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system contributes to the fact that the MAN D3872 Auxiliary is suitable for international offshore operations as well as for regulated coastal and inland markets.

The 30-liter platform from MAN Engines is successful in the market in a wide range of maritime and stationary applications. In the field of workboats, the D3872 engine family has established itself as a powerful and reliable main propulsion system. In the yacht segment, the engine was most recently introduced as the MAN V12X series, where it offers output levels of up to 1,618 kW (2,200 hp). In addition, the platform is the basis for MAN E3872 stationary gas engines, which are used in the power generation sector. With the new auxiliary variant of the MAN D3872, operators now have a consistent and technologically uniform engine family at their disposal, which combines main drives as well as on-board power and hybrid solutions within one platform.

"With the new MAN D3872 as an engine for on-board engines, we are consistently rounding off our 30-litre portfolio. This provides operators and ship-yards with a fully integrated, highly efficient and future-proof engine family for a wide range of maritime applications from main propulsion to powerful on-board power supply. The MAN D3872 Auxiliary is a modern solution that will reliably accompany our customers for many years to come," explains Reiner Roessner, Head of Sales at MAN Engines.

With its expanded portfolio, MAN Engines now covers a wide range of engines for workboats and yachts. These include high-performance propulsion engines with different operating modes for light, medium and heavy-duty operation, auxiliary engines for generator operation and diesel-electric systems, hybrid systems and dual-fuel engines for alternative fuels, as well as flexible exhaust aftertreatment solutions for worldwide applications. This provides operators with a comprehensive and technologically coordinated range of products and services that ensures both efficiency and future-proofing in all relevant performance classes.

The MAN D3872 as an engine for on-board engines rounds off the power portfolio from 280 kW to 960 kW (381 hp to 1,306 hp) and thus perfectly complements the portfolio of drive engines from 221 kW to 1,618 kW (301 hp to 2,200 hp).

The engine for MAN D3872 on-board units is now available.
