• Alstom will provide maintenance and overhaul for nearly 3,500 point machines on the Polish railway network, with an option for an additional 800 units;
• The agreement ensures stability, safety, and continuity of maintenance across Poland for a period of four years.

From 2026 to 2029, Alstom’s team will be responsible for periodic inspections and overhaul of Onvia Switch electric point machines used across the Polish network. The main scope of the contract covers nearly 3,500 inspections and overhauls, with an option for an additional 800 inspections if needed. The work will include complete periodic maintenance and repairs in accordance with PKP PLK requirements and based on Alstom’s standards for servicing and maintaining point machines such as Onvia Switch 500, 700 and 2000 models.

The agreement between Alstom and PLK SA (plk-sa.pl) is a significant step toward further improving railway infrastructure maintenance in Poland. For the first time, we can plan and carry out work on a nationwide scale, ensuring consistency and continuity of services for many years ahead. This is the result of our partner’s mature approach to infrastructure management, which allows us to operate in a planned, cost-effective manner and in line with the highest standards. The cooperation model we have developed will contribute to the safety and development of the entire rail network, strengthening market participants’ trust in stable, long-term solutions,” emphasized Adam Juretko, Director of Alstom Polska, Katowice.

Alstom’s experience in the Polish market includes, among others, the first implementation of the ERTMS Level 2 system, construction of ERTMS Level 2 on ten PKP PLK railway lines, the construction of more than 30 centralized traffic control (CTC) systems, equipping more than 220 stations with computerized interlocking systems, and the modernization of over 1,700 level crossing signaling systems. Rail vehicles as well as traffic control systems and devices manufactured by Alstom’s Polish plants are in operation in many countries in Europe and the Middle East. In Poland, Alstom employs more than 4,700 people.

Alstom’s Onvia Switch™ portfolio comprising the Onvia Switch 500, 700 and 2000 models is designed for intensive use on both domestic and international lines. Its modular architecture and high reliability enable operators to reduce lifecycle costs while improving network performance. The solution forms part of Alstom’s wider Onvia™ offering for mainline signalling, supporting digitalised, efficient and safe rail operations.

Alstom™, Onvia™ and Onvia Switch™ are Alstom trademarks.
