During annual NEDS defence exhibition in Rotterdam, the largest trade fair for the defence sector in the Netherlands, Nevesbu signed a contract with Naval Group for the design of complex subsystems in the frame of the new Orka-class submarines programme for the Royal Netherlands Navy. With this assignment, Nevesbu is making a significant contribution to the RNSC programme.
One of the most critical requirements is that the submarine must operate silently to avoid detection. This places high demands on the systems and their integration. In addition, space on a submarine is extremely limited, requiring precise planning and design where not a single centimeter goes unused.
Over the past 90 years, Nevesbu has contributed to the design of all Dutch submarines as well as several vessels for foreign navies. The company focuses on technically demanding components that require in-depth knowledge of both operational practice and maritime engineering. It is highly specialized work.
A long-term and sustainable collaboration between Naval Group and the Dutch industry
With this contract, Nevesbu joins Team Orka, a growing network of Dutch companies from various sectors collaborating under the leadership of Naval Group on the construction of the four new submarines.
This cooperation aligns with the Industrial Cooperation Agreement (ICA) signed by Naval Group with the Ministry of Economic Affairs, to strengthen the foundation for long-term Dutch autonomy in maintenance and future modernization of submarines. It also promotes collaboration and knowledge exchange between the Dutch and French maritime industries.
The cooperation between Naval Group and the Dutch industry has existed for 30 years, and reaches far beyond the Orka programme. Dutch companies are also making substantial contributions to other Naval Group vessels and systems, underscoring how a strong and enduring relationship with Dutch industry benefits all parties involved.
“The continuity of knowledge and experience enables us to design high-quality systems for the new submarines that meet the highest standards in terms of safety, performance, and reliability,” says Bart van Rijssen, Managing Director of Nevesbu. “Nevesbu’s contribution to this programme highlights our strength as a knowledge partner in submarine design. We look forward to working with Naval Group and the other partners to realize a new class of advanced submarines for the Netherlands.”
“The deep-rooted knowledge and experience of Nevesbu, built up over nearly a century and evident in all Dutch submarine designs, is of great value to the Orka programme,” says Mark Donderwinkel, Country Director Netherlands at Naval Group. “We are very honored to see them join the Team Orka and reinforce the strong industrial partnership between Naval Group and the Netherlands”
