Since the end of 2020, the Metris Visual Die Protection (VDP) monitoring system, which automatically detects potential sources of danger and stops the system immediately, has been in use on three ANDRITZ Schuler presses. The number of damages has been significantly reduced during this time.
“The additional control of the VDP system has enabled us to further improve our quality management,” says Hans Martin Tekeser, founder and owner of Alzner Automotive. “In addition, we have been able to reduce the risk of damage to our dies to virtually zero, which reduces our costs and increases productivity. The technology supplied by ANDRITZ Schuler never ceases to inspire us.”
The VDP system combines powerful camera hardware with intelligent monitoring software. Two cameras check the die after each stroke. If, for example, a part is crooked or a punching residue remains, the system sounds an alarm and stops the machine a decisive advantage, especially in just-in-time production, which requires smooth processes and reliable deliveries.
Between 2013 and 2018, Alzner Automotive (alzner-automotive.de) put two 400-ton hydraulic presses and five servo presses with a pressing force of 250 to 630 tons into operation all supplied by Schuler. This enabled the company to significantly increase its production capacities and, not least thanks to the VDP system, is ideally positioned for large series.
