• Alstom has delivered the first of 29 Innovia APM R vehicles to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as part of an $87 million USD project, its largest APM replacement contract to date.
• The new vehicles will enhance reliability and support the Plane Train’s extension, accommodating the growing number of travelers at the world’s busiest airport, which served over 108 million passengers in 2024.
• Manufactured in West Mifflin, PA, the trains offer greater energy efficiency, higher speeds, and a lightweight aluminum frame, ensuring safety and sustainability for up to 900 passengers per train.

This delivery is part of an $87 million USD project, Alstom’s largest APM replacement contract to date and its second-largest APM project in the Americas.

This marks the airport’s third order of Innovia automated people mover (APM) vehicles, manufactured by Alstom in the U.S., bringing the total order to 63 cars. This latest generation of vehicles will reduce the risk of in-service failures and provide more reliable service for passengers at the world’s busiest airport.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (atl.com), consistently ranked the world’s busiest by passenger traffic, served over 108 million passengers in 2024. Alstom’s unmatched expertise in integrated railway systems will ensure a smooth transition to the next generation of APMs.

“Over the last 40 years, Alstom has proudly partnered with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to transport passengers at one of the world’s busiest airports,” said Michael Keroullé, President Alstom Americas. “Alstom’s new Innovia APM vehicles will help the airport enhance capacity, support its expansion, and ensure travelers can smoothly embark on their next adventure or return home to their families.”

The additional APM cars support the Plane Train’s extension project to accommodate the growing number of travelers at the airport. This extension will enhance the system’s capacity and improve multimodal connections, ensuring a seamless and efficient passenger experience.

The new Innovia APM R trains are manufactured in West Mifflin, PA, Alstom’s leading APM manufacturing center in North America. These vehicles offer greater energy efficiency, higher top speeds, and a lightweight aluminum frame that meets industry standards for safety and sustainability. Each Innovia vehicle can hold up to 900 passengers per train.

Alstom is the number one provider and operator of airport people movers in the U.S.

Alstom’s Innovia APMs transport passengers safely and efficiently at 15 airports across the United States. As a market leader for more than 50 years, the driverless Innovia APM is an efficient transportation solution, specially designed to offer quick and convenient service for commuters between airport terminals, to and from airports or within cities. Over 30 of Alstom’s APM systems have been delivered around the world and are in operation at 13 of the world’s busiest airports. Across all our APM customers in the U.S., we average a performance of 99.5% fleet availability, through 24/7 operations and maintenance services.
