After a construction period of around two years, HOCHTIEF and the building services consortium WTC Fest have handed over the modern A330 laboratory building to BASF Schwarzheide GmbH on schedule. The official handover of the keys marks an important milestone for BASF (basf.com) at its traditional site in Lusatia.
The new building stands for state-of-the-art technology and excellent cooperation between all parties involved. For the first time at this location, an air-to-water heat pump with concrete core activation is being used for an efficient energy supply. As the commercial and technical leader of the consortium, HOCHTIEF was responsible for the realization of the project - from planning to turnkey handover.
In future, 77 laboratory workstations will be housed in an area of 2,400 square meters. They will be supplemented by a 960 square meter office area, which is designed according to an open concept and offers space for a further 72 workstations. BASF has invested a mid double-digit million euro sum in the new three-storey building. “With the completion of our laboratory building on time and on budget, we are laying another important foundation stone for successfully positioning our site for the future,” says Jürgen Fuchs, Managing Director of BASF Schwarzheide GmbH.
HOCHTIEF has already realized numerous laboratory projects in Germany and around the world, including the new Berlin-Brandenburg state laboratory. The successful completion of the project in Schwarzheide underscores HOCHTIEF's expertise as a high-performance construction partner for challenging industrial projects. “The successful and cooperative partnership within the consortium and with our client BASF was a key factor in the success of this project. With the construction of the new laboratory building, we are setting new standards in modern building technology,” emphasizes Thilo Warlich, Branch Manager HOCHTIEF Infrastructure Building Berlin.
