Mitsubishi UFJ Bank (mufg.jp), the largest banking group in Japan, has taken a hybrid cloud approach enabled by Oracle technology to modernize the system infrastructure for its online banking service, Mitsubishi UFJ Direct. The bank selected Oracle Exadata Database Machine, the highest performing system for Oracle Database, to upgrade the Mitsubishi UFJ Direct platform. Following the implementation, the bank experienced a 5X improvement in processing power and stable operations.
Mitsubishi UFJ Direct has over 10 million users and is a core element of Mitsubishi UFJ Bank’s growth strategy. To meet this goal and ensure resource scalability to handle future transaction volume, and transition to more efficient application and infrastructure designs, the bank needed to strengthen its digital infrastructure. The new system needed to be capable of handling five times the current transaction volume as well as a microservices architecture to support rapid development of services to meet evolving customer needs.

Oracle Base Database Service and Oracle Cloud VMware Solution in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) are being used as the testing environment to verify the Oracle Database patches during system upgrade. In addition, to support disaster recovery at a remote site, the new on-premises Exadata platform uses Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) for scalability and availability combined with Oracle Data Guard for automatic database synchronization. This combination has delivered high performance and availability, enabling the system to efficiently handle ever-increasing data processing demands.
