Australian Swimwear Designer, Leesa Fogarty joins Adjunct Associate Professor of the Fashion Institute of New York, Georgia Kalivas, and TAFE NSW Sustainability consultant Michael Reynolds as Guest Speakers.
Leesa Fogarty is one of the Designers for MaraJoara, an Aussie swimwear label making inroads in Australia, Europe and South America. Already a big international hit, MaraJoara will showcase their ethics as the international designer guest at Sarajevo Fashion Week 2007 and Mallorca Fashion Week 2008. MaraJoara received international recognition for setting the trend of a healthy body image on the worlds runways at the closing show of Transeasonal Collections at Australian Fashion Week last year. The promotion of green initiatives and ethical issues such as ‘healthy body image’ are fundamental to the company's business model and marketing strategy.
Georgia Kalivas is Adjunct Associate Professor of the Fashion Institute of New York, and an independent Textile Co-ordinator for the Institute for Market Technology, Switzerland. Georgia will speak on how ‘Green’ issues are becoming an increasing focus for business growth strategies and how there is an increasing consumer awareness of the relations between textile production and environmental issues. She will also cover how to increase sales by focusing on the environment.
Michael is a Natural Resource Management consultant currently working with TAFE NSW to develop an Education for Sustainability strategy across all curriculum areas, which includes the Textiles, Clothing and Footwear programs. The strategy aims to highlight TAFE NSW's ongoing commitment to assisting individuals and communities in making informed decisions and creating ways to work towards a more sustainable world through education. The strategy not only focuses on the environmental issues of today but looks at integrating both social and economic sustainability into the education framework as well.
The event will be held on Tuesday, 22nd May at 7.30am at NSW Trade and Investment Centre, Level 47 MLC Centre, Cnr King and Castlereagh Streets, Sydney. A small registration fee applies.
