Vision-Box (vision-box.com), an Amadeus company, and a global industry leader in biometrics seamless travel, proudly announces the successful completion of its Seamless Border Programme with the opening of the new and reconstructed arrivals area at Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIAE) in Sint Maarten. This development is set to provide a more efficient, secure, and pleasant travel experience for all passengers arriving at PJIAE.
The Seamless Border Programme at Princess Juliana International Airport is designed to enhance the efficiency and security of passenger processing while maximising the limited space available in the terminal during peak times. The programme uses real-time flow orchestration through advanced biometric technology to verify passenger identities quickly and accurately.
Since its inception, the partnership between PJIAE, the Immigration Border Protection service, and Vision-Box has focused on enhancing passenger experience and security through Vision-Box’s biometric solutions. Last April, Vision-Box announced the programme's go-live at departures. This expanded collaboration deploys both a digital entry website and the newest and most cutting-edge biometric technology platform throughout the airport, facilitating a modern border control system at the island's Air Entry/Exit.
Streamlining the passenger journey
This implementation streamlines the passenger journey by integrating the Seamless Kiosk®, the Seamless Gate®, and the Seamless Desk® at manual booths, allowing travellers to move through border control without repeatedly presenting their passports. It enables passport-less eGate crossings, reducing transaction times to just 6-10 seconds per entry for eligible travellers. Prior to this solution, during peak hours, it could take over two hours for 1500-1800 passengers to clear the immigration area.
Before departing, passengers must register on the entry.sx/ website to announce their arrival on the island, in lieu of the outdated paper form that was previously in force. This is the so-called Embarkation/Disembarkation Card, that is mandatory for any traveller wishing to enter Sint Maarten by air. Once arrived, all eligible passengers must complete the self-service border control step at one of the 18 available Seamless Kiosk® for Automated Passport Control. These kiosks offer passengers to autonomously complete their passport control process, reducing waiting times by allowing them to scan their passport, undergo biometric capture/verification and watchlist checks, while ensuring that their pre-arrival digital entry form was effectively submitted. After border check, passengers are either directed to the Automated Border Control Seamless Gate® or to a Seamless Desk®. The 5 available Seamless Gates streamline the entry and exit process by automating border checks simply using facial recognition, while the Seamless Desk® is at the manual booth for further evaluation by an Immigration officer when required.
Vision-Box’s Seamless Journey Platform® Border Management Suite oversees all passenger interactions, ensuring secure and efficient processing across every touchpoint, using the Inspector and Control monitoring applications, ultimately orchestrating the flow of travellers on a risk-based approach. This integrated ecosystem brings together all stakeholders in a unified seamless journey, improving the travel experience for everyone.

Minister of Justice, Government of Sint Maarten, Lyndon Lewis stated,“This project aims to streamline the passenger registration process by introducing the necessary digital equipment, along with a user-friendly website where individuals entering the country can conveniently register their information beforehand and be processed seamlessly by Immigration. By providing this digital platform, the Ministry of Justice will have the necessary tools to carry out their vital duties more efficiently, ensuring the safety and well-being of our nation.”
