At the Cannes Yachting Festival 2022, MAN Engines (man-engines.com) presented its new MAN V12X engine series with a displacement of 30 litres for yachts for the first time. This quality of this design has now been evaluated by an international jury and awarded the "Red Dot Award: Product Design" (red-dot.org). "We would like to express our sincere thanks and are very pleased about the award. After all, the care we put into the structural design and interpretation of the performance of our engines is also reflected in the design. We have consistently continued the tradition of making fascinating technology look fascinating with the MAN V12X," says Bernd Huneke, Head of Design Marine MAN Engines.
The most distinctive design feature of the MAN V12X is the engine cover in X-design, which expresses the next generation of MAN yacht engines. At the same time, with the MAN V12X, the design language of the MAN marine engines was coherently further developed. Based on a concept by design partner Hyve, the distinctive design of the X-shaped cover was created. This clearly shapes the appearance of the engine both from the side and from above, but at the same time allows fascinating views of the engine's technology on closer inspection. Despite the distinctive appearance of the MAN V12X, the new V12 engine with a displacement of 30 litres fits seamlessly into the design of the established MAN marine engines with six, eight and twelve cylinders. MAN Engines developed the MAN V12X with a larger displacement in order not only to offer an increase in performance for existing applications, but also to offer its customers a propulsion system for larger yachts and super yachts.
The best products of each year are awarded in the Red Dot Award: Product Design. In 2023, the submitted products were evaluated in 51 competition categories. 43 jurors had come together for this purpose. In accordance with the qualities of good design and against the background of their socio-cultural background, their professional focus and their design expertise, they have decided which submitted product designs meet the criteria for being awarded the Red Dot. This year's submissions came from 60 countries. As different as the products are, they combine their design quality, which has now also been confirmed by an internationally recognized and independent panel of experts. With around 20,000 entries per year, the Red Dot Design Award is one of the largest design competitions in the world. The Red Dot Design Award looks back on a history of more than 60 years: In 1955, a jury met for the first time to evaluate the best designs of the time. In the 1990s, Red Dot CEO Professor Dr. Peter Zec developed the name and brand of the award. Since then, the coveted "Red Dot" award has been the internationally respected seal of outstanding design quality. The award winners are presented in the yearbooks, museums and online.
