An ambitious program to increase the share of energy from renewable sources, improve the value of its industrial areas, reduce CO2 emissions and diversify energy sources, an issue more relevant than ever during this period of intense market tension. This is Leonardo's plan for energy efficiency and progressive decarbonization of its industrial activities, now also supported by the signing of agreements with Enel X, Enel's global business line dedicated to innovative services, which are part of Leonardo and Enel's strategic partnership for the development of sustainable and innovative solutions. The first agreements will see the Leonardo sites in Nola (NA) and Vergiate (VA) using green energy for the sites' own needs, reducing the load from the external grid also to support business continuity.
"The Self-Generation Program, included in Leonardo's Sustainability Plan, is a tangible sign of our commitment to the development of 100% green energy sources. The development of the Program, with the start-up of pilot installations, is part of the wider framework of the Group's Energy Management model managed by Leonardo Global Solutions, the Group's Shared Service Company, to contribute to the structural reduction of energy consumption and related CO2 emissions," said Lucio Valerio Cioffi, Leonardo's General Manager.

Under the agreement, Leonardo will grant the use of areas within its sites to Enel X, which will build photovoltaic plants using leading market technologies, with a capacity of around 6.6 MWp. The plants will supply part of the energy produced to the Leonardo plants, avoiding the emission of more than 2,800 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year. An ethical example of the valorization of industrial areas, combining environmental, energy and cost containment targets.
The Operation, given the correlation between Leonardo and Enel X (both companies owned by the Ministry of Economy and Finance), is a related party transaction of “lesser importance” pursuant to current regulations and to the Leonardo’s Procedure. The Operation also qualifies as ordinary (as part of the activities supporting the energy management of Leonardo's sites) and under market-equivalent or standard terms (in exclusion from the procedural regime). The economic conditions applied to the transaction conditions are in fact consistent with a similar proposal from a different supplier and comparable with the market values of similar transactions.
