Each year Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated excellence in new products and technologies within its industry. GE Healthcare has shown innovation by launching a broad line of emerging products and technologies.
“GE Healthcare is the preeminent diagnostic imaging company with its extensive product line in the X-ray, MRI, CT and PET imaging sectors,” notes Frost & Sullivan industry analyst Subha B. Basu, Ph.D. “The considerable resources that GE invests annually toward expanding the limits of innovation are positioning the company as a leader in pre-clinical imaging as well.”
GE Healthcare’s eXplore suite combines a range of imaging modalities, placing GE at the forefront of product innovation and expertise in pre-clinical imaging.
GE Healthcare’s innovative hybrid eXplore Vista PET/CT preclinical system combines its existing PET system with a high-performance, low dose CT unit in a single module. Resolution, sensitivity, and uniformity are all optimized through the Phoswich detector technology, which is capable of achieving high spatial resolution and clarity.
“Three-dimensional algorithm software is also available for volumetric reconstruction of both skeletal structures and soft tissue, allowing for greater advancements in the fields of oncology, neurology and cardiology,” says Dr. Basu. “The powerful 3D algorithm that the system utilizes allows for resolution close to 1 mm suited well for evaluation specific receptor take up.”
The eXplore Vista stand-alone PET system also has respiratory gating which minimizes motion artifacts and enables a range of studies – from cell tracking to drug efficacy – to be performed on a single system.
GE Healthcare’s eXplore Locus CT preclinical systems cover a broad range of applications including high-resolution bone microstructure analysis, high-throughput clinical-scale in vivo imaging, and small-animal CT perfusion imaging. The scanners are calibrated to clinical CT standards, allowing simple interpretation and comparison with clinical CT data. All the scanners in the range are supplied with dedicated visualization and analysis software for high-throughput pre-clinical applications, and also interoperate with GE’s clinical workstations, enabling the use of GE’s wide range of visualization and analysis tools available on those platforms. GE also provides tools to easily fuse functional data from the PET, SPECT and Optical imaging modalities with the high-resolution images from the in vivo CT scanners.
Additionally, GE Healthcare’s eXplore Optix fluorescent preclinical optical imaging system is the only system on the market that is based on unique Time-domain technology, which allows unmatched sensitivity, depth and concentration of information. Cell trafficking, tumor progression and characterization, simultaneous detection of two molecular events and time-dependent pharmacokinetics represent clinical applications facilitated by Time-domain technology.
GE Healthcare’s recent introduction of the first full ring solid-state detector SPECT for small animal imaging demonstrates their commitment to innovative product design. The eXplore specCZT utilizes a cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) detector, allowing for full 360-degree coverage around the animal and high-energy resolution to enable dual or triple radio-nuclide imaging. The increased sensitivity of speCZT helps medical researchers perform dynamic small animal SPECT imaging to precisely quantify radio-tracer uptake and identify morphological changes.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
