On the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, TimeGhost, the creators behind the popular online historical documentary series The Great War Week by Week and World War Two in Real Time, will release a five hour real-time documentary on YouTube. Ten half-hour episodes will recreate the events that brought USA into WW2 minute-by-minute with never before seen colorized archive film material, computer graphics, enhanced aerial photography, and more.

TimeGhost’s project to document the events of the Second World War in unprecedented detail began on September 1, 2018, and has to date generated over 50 million views on YouTube. Each week the TimeGhost team of young media creators, researchers, and lead hosts Indy Neidell and Spartacus Olsson retell the events of WWII as they evolved. The series is viewed worldwide by over a million people every month and covers the politics, the everyday struggle, the fighting itself, and the crimes against humanity from a global perspective. The weekly World War Two in Real Time series has now reached December 1941, and the US is about to enter the war following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

Pearl Harbor will premiere every half hour starting at 6:10 AM Honolulu time on the anniversary of the attack and remain permanently accessible on YouTube. For the series, TimeGhost has teamed up with Ricks Film Restorations to colorize and breathe new life into more than an hour of archive film footage using automated, artificial intelligence-based colorizing technology. Through the online game World of Warships, the battle scenes on the water and aerial dogfights have been recreated to high levels of realism. It is the first time in media history that automatic colorization and a gaming engine have been used to this extent to bring life back to historical events.
