• Center for Food Action hosts day of service events, packing weekend snack packs for children who would otherwise be hungry;
• Events chaired by NBC 4 New York’s Jennifer Maxfield Ostfeld with special guest Jackie Goldschneider.
They rely on school meals for breakfast and lunch during the week and miss meals over the weekend. CFA began the Weekend Snack Pack Program ten years ago to help fight weekend hunger and has rallied community support for the program as part of their 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance events.
“This is an event that is easy to get behind,” says Center for Food Action’s Executive Director, Patricia Espy,“weekend hunger affects thousands of children in northern New Jersey. Working with more than 21 area schools and organizations, CFA is able to distribute over 35,000 Weekend Snack Packs to help children who would normally go without on the weekend.”
“9/11 was the darkest day, and we hope to redirect our sadness to spread light and joy in our community.” Said Jen Maxfield, event chair,“This is a wonderful opportunity to come out with your family on the National Day of Service and Remembrance.”
CFA (cfanj.org) plans to hold three events attended by hundreds of children, students, and adults who come together to reflect on the events of 9/11 through a day of service giving back to the community. This year Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Jackie Goldschneider will be joining the Paramus event, held on the campus of Bergen Community College. Goldschneider is a supporter of CFA’s mission to prevent hunger and homelessness in northern New Jersey, earlier this year she auctioned off RHONJ’s infamous dagger and donated the proceeds to Center for Food Action.
