The 400kV Gopalganj substation is a part of 400KV Aminbazar-Mawa-Mongla transmission line project funded by Asian Development Bank and is the nodal point in forming 400kV transmission backbone in Bangladesh.

This transmission line project shall bring power from Payra power plant (Patuakhali) and Rampal power plant (Bagerhat) to Aminbazar Substation in Dhaka.

The 400kV Gopalganj substation is a focal point for another 400kV Patuakhali Gopalganj Transmission project and also carries political importance for being the home town of Honourable Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
